Crews boating from places other than Hammersmith must keep in contact
with Race Control [Tel: 07903 684 856] in case of any changes to
the programme. The timetable will not allow time for crews to return
to Putney or Chiswick between races. Crews should exchange boats
at Hammermith.
A crew representative must report to Race Control at Auriol Kensington
before their first race.
Competitors who have not paid their entry fees and supplied their
ARA numbers or obtained a day ticket will not be allowed to race.
Coxswains are liable to be weighed and must provide their own dead-weight
if necessary.
Competitors are advised to bring rubber boots for boating from the
foreshore at low tide.
A marshal will be stationed in a boat at the start. Crews must report
to the start marshal at least 10 minutes before the start of their
race. Having reported to the marshal, crews must then remain within
hailing distance of the start. Crews should await their race on
the Surrey Shore.
Crews must report to the start at least 10 minutes before their
race time.
Races will start without reference to absentees.
The course is 1400 metres with a free start. Racing is with the
tide, the start will be from Chiswick Eyot on an ebb tide, and from
Fulham on a flood tide.
During the race boats must go through the centre span of Hammersmith
Bridge. There is a stagger on the finish which favours the Centre
and Middlesex stations.
The winners of qualifying events must present their ARA Cards to
Race Control for updating as soon as possible after their final.
Prizes will be withheld from any crew that cannot produce all of
their cards. The Victor Ludorum: Six points for an eights win, three
for a four, two for a pair and one for a single.
Coxswains are advised to keep a sharp look out for all other types
of vessel. A sailing club is situated near to each start location.
Sailing boats are liable to appear at any time but more likely up
to two hours either side of high water time, (or Thames High Water).
Passenger carrying vessels may also be present. Manoeuvring these
vessels, especially at low water, is difficult.
When going out from or returning to the raft, keep the bows against
the tide. When going to the start leave the raft and cross the river
to the Surrey shore as soon as it is safe to do so. Proceed to the
start on this shore.
REMEMBER: Keep a sharp look out at all times for other river users.
